Back when Birch started in 1983 we operated as a print broker, supplying print to blue chip clients. In the 1990s, the demand for print rocketed us into different realms and we started to bring our print production in-house.

With large demand, came more choice and our customers started wanting anything and everything printed, so we moved full circle and went back to managing our print process through our trusted trade suppliers.

You won’t have to worry about making the various elements of your brief ‘fit our way’. We’re experts in branded print so we will advise on everything from material choices, print processes and finishing options to create a plan that works for you.

We’re keen on green

We print vast amounts of products on a wide range of materials and deliver these to our customers every day so you may be wondering how a company like Birch could be eco-friendly at all.

Birch focuses on using FSC accredited suppliers. FSC stands for the Forest Steward Council who are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the responsible management of the World’s Forests. We’re also members of Two Sides, a not-for-profit, global initiative promoting the unique, sustainable, and attractive attributes of print, paper, and paper packaging.

Back to the future with Birch!

We’ve had some pivotal moments since Birch’s birth in 1983. Have a look through our history timeline to find out more about our past.

1983

Birch was born! Melvin Birch started it all off at 100 Baker Road, Giltbrook, Nottingham. This was the same year that the computer mouse was invented!

1988

We started working with Carryfast (now known as UPS) and developed the first integrated barcoded consignment note and label system for parcel tracking. Some great films were produced in the 80s including Who Framed Roger Rabbit!

1989

Vision Express and their 2 UK stores joined our portfolio of customers and ready made reading glasses were first introduced into the UK in 1989 too!

1997

Melvin Birch retired and his son and daughter (Nigel and Andrea) took hold of the reins! The Simpsons also became the longest-running prime time animated series.

1999

Our digital age had started to bloom and we had our first web-to-print system installed to manage our franchisee and multi-site customer’s changing needs. This was just a year after the World’s largest search engine was born, coining the phrase ‘Just Google it’.

2005

Melvin Birch retired and his son and daughter (Nigel and Andrea) took hold of the reins! The Simpsons also became the longest-running prime time animated series.

2011

Our digital age had started to bloom and we had our first web-to-print system installed to manage our franchisee and multi-site customer’s changing needs. This was just a year after the World’s largest search engine was born, coining the phrase ‘Just Google it’.

2012

Continued growth meant we needed a bigger ship, so we bought and moved to new 27,000 sq ft premises at Heritage House, and we were delighted to start working with Fashion Retailer Zara in the provision of their in-store POS and training materials.

2014

As we started to approach 2020, another great brand started working with us. We were awarded the status of key supplier to the well-known brand, Games Workshop. At this moment in time, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was the best selling video game of 2014.

2017

In 2017 we were proud to work alongside Glasses Direct with their revolutionary new concept in spectacle delivery and Cressida Dick was appointed Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the force’s 188 – year history.

2020

And then there was 2020 – a year we’ll all never forget! A virus beginning with the letter C changed our world, and working from home became the norm.

2021

It’s still early days, but Birch started the year with the birth of our new website! Watch this space…

2022

We’re delighted to have become an extension to the Eleven Loves team by taking on the management of their order fulfilment service. Eleven Loves now have the freedom and headspace to focus on marketing their brand, and we’ve welcomed new faces in the fulfilment team!

2023

We celebrated our 40th Birthday in August 2023! What a huge achievement for Andrea and Nigel and all of the Birch team. We celebrated with team treats, a team day out at Denby Pottery, and a prize draw for our customers.

2024

We launched a new website! In addition, our third-party fulfilment and logistics service has grown over the last two years, and we’re excited to welcome our new Team Manager, Lisa.

2025

We became members of Two Sides, a not-for-profit organisation whose goal is to inspire and inform businesses and consumers around the world with engaging, fact-based information about the sustainability and attractiveness of print, paper and paper packaging.
