Pantone colour of the year 2025 – Mocha Mousse

Pantone’s Colour of the Year is renowned as one of the most closely guarded secrets within the creative sector, and the reveal is finally here. Mocha Mousse is a cocoa inspired shade described as a “mellow brown infused with a soothing and inviting warmth.” This captivating hue is poised to influence the upcoming year in fashion, interior design, visual arts, and much more.

‘For Pantone Colour of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.’

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute

What is the Pantone Colour System?

The Pantone Colour System is a standardised colour-matching system designed to help printers and designers across the world control colours during the print process. The Pantone colour reference is unique and stands alone from the CMYK digital printing process.

CMYK stands for the 4 following colours, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. The printing press uses dots of ink to make up the image from these 4 colours. In contrast, the Pantone colour is already mixed with your chosen colour so it will immediately improve your print output. A Pantone colour ensures consistency and continuity of your print projects especially if you’d like a specific shade of colour!

How does Pantone’s annual selection process operate?

It relies on comprehensive research spanning fashion runways, interior design trends, cultural movements, and psychological factors. Since its debut in 1999 with Sky Blue, the Colour of the Year has effectively encapsulated the spirit of various eras. As we enter 2025, Mocha Mousse aims to represent a seamless fusion of elegance and comfort, encouraging us to relish life’s simple joys while embracing a sense of mindful indulgence.

PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is a sophisticated, earthy neutral and a notably versatile colour when compared to its predecessors. With its soothing, and refined essence, we believe Mocha Mousse will seamlessly integrate into various aesthetics. In contrast, previous colours like Peach Fuzz and Viva Magenta were more avant-garde and somewhat challenging to incorporate effortlessly within the fashion and interior design realms.

Why not incorporate a bit of Mocha Mousse into your print marketing visuals this year? We have a sneaky feeling we’ll be seeing Pantone 17-1230 everywhere in 2025!
